USB on IBM ThinkCentre A30 8199-B2U breaks when XP Pro SP1 is installed

I installed Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 on my new IBM ThinkCentre
A30 (8199-B2U) and it broke the USB ports. The USB Serial Bus Controllers
and Root Hubs still appear in Device Manager but PC Doctor does not see them
for diagnostic purposes, and the devices plugged into the USB ports (mouse,
scanner, camera) which worked previous to SP1 are all dead.

I did a "system restore" to roll back to the pre-SP 1 state and the USB
devices came back.

I don't want to have hardware which is not compatible with SP 1, as that
tells me that it may also have problems in the future, not to mention I will
be stuck at the base OS level of Windows XP Pro. Is there some sort of
known problem or fix for this? Or should I return the IBM and get a Dell?

Please advise.

Thanks.

Hi!

Dell!? Their customer service suck... Stay with IBM! I
had to deal with IBM a few times for my Servers and their
service is great... While Dell, you should do a search in
the newsgroup and see how many people complaint...

First thing, visit IBM website to check for updates for
your computer:

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/us/all_download_drivers.html

-select the Automatically detect drivers for your IBM
Notebook or Desktop...

I have a bunch of IBM desktops at the office and at home
that are way older than yours and didn't have any
problems ugrading XP Pro/Home to SP1

Don't forget to visit Windows Update:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Microsoft may have fix for that...

Thanks. I solved the problem by updating the BIOS and the USB driver
(QI3Z03US.EXE). Then I uninstalled everything under the "Universal Serial
Bus controllers" in Device Manager. I did a " scan for new hardware" from
"My computer" in Device Manager. After doing that, it fixed the USB problem
with Windows XP Pro SP 1.
