USB hardware errors - device still works

I have a DELL Dimension 8200 running Win XP SP2.
The computer came with USB 1.1 and I recently installed an Adaptec
DUOconnect card (USB 2.0 and firewire). This might have been an existing
problem prior to the installation of the Adaptec card.

I don't know when it started, but at system startup or every time I connect
a USB device, I get an error message from the "Found new hardware wizard".

This occurs with my HP photosmart 7690, BELKIN compact flash media reader
and iPod mini. The error message reads;
"Cannot Install this Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware
BELKIN USB 2 HS_CF USB Device
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service."

The weird thing is that the devices seem to work. I don't know what speeds
or how well but I can print and download pictures through both USB ports (2.0
& 1.1).

When installing the Adaptec card I had to download the driver from their web
site since I did not have the USB 2.0 driver install. Did I do something
wrong when installing XP service pack 2? Shouldn't it have been in downloaded
even though I didn't have an active device?

Looking at the devices in the device manager status window shows a yellow
caution exclamation point symbol next to each device name. When I double
click on the warning symbol the driver tries to installs but fails.

I've download the latest updates from the Windows update web site, HP
printer support web site and Adaptec.

Any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix this problem.
I could probably live with problem by closing the error message window(s)
each time, however it is annoying and I don't know if performance is impacted
or a soon total failure will happen.

Thanks for any support

This is old news for HP products. Check with them. That said, within my
experience helping others, download the drivers to a special folder clearly
defined under C: to/for all devices mentioned/involved, fully extract them
and then point the way via the problematic device manager errors, where it
says Update Driver/Browse. Good luck!
