There is a known issue with XP and the bluetooth icon in the control panel
not showing, you should have gotten drivers with your dongle, use those, or
go to the manufactors website and download them.
I suggest you do a search in this forum for bluetooth, there are some older
messages that give details on some things you may try to get the bluetooth
icon to appear in the control panel, but don't hold your breath.
Mine doesn't appear either and I've tried all the tips, they won't work for
me.

So the bottom line is if I buy a dongle that relys on the xp drivers only,
will it work? even though it dosn't appear in the control panel.( I have a
bluesolie but it is too complicated for what I need) Thanks

Hey I recently bought a Bluetooth Dongle and found that it came with
Bluesoleil software. I really liked the dongle and was hoping when I bought
it that it would use windows XP built in bluetooth stack, so I searched
around and found an article called "Using the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack
(instead of WIDCOMM) on Windows XP w- SP2".
I know it says instead of WIDCOMM, but it works for my dongle perfectly.
