URLS in outlook display with <>

When I send an email to a co-worker with a URL in it the URL in my original
email is just as I typed it 'http://blah.blah.blah'. However whenever he
recieves the email, or sends me one the URL looks like this:
<http://blah.blah.blah>. What is causing this?
The reason I'm asking - I'm thinking it may be causing a problem he is
having. Whenever he sends just a new email with nothing else in it except a
URL... every message he sends after that has the URL in it. It only clears
out once he closes and reopens outlook.

The <> is added in word when inserting a hyperlink. Is he using word as his
e-mail editor?
