I am trying to upgrade my new lap top which is preinstalled with xp home to
xp pro. i am getting an error message that says the version on the lap top is
newer. I did use my xp pro on my desktop. Can I stil use it to upgrade my
laptop? What is the issue with the version?

First - if the Windows XP Professional is *in use* right now - no - you
cannot use it unless you bought an additional license for it.

Second - you may need to slipstream/integrate Service Pack 2 (SP2) into your
XP Professional CD to upgrade your laptop.. That is why it is telling you
the version on the laptop is newer - it likely has SP2 installed and the XP
Professional CD you have does not.

How do I get an additional license? I use both computers. One for home and
one for when I am on the road. If I buy a new upgrade cd will I still have
the same "version"issue?

How do I "slipstream?"

Doesn't matter how you use the systems, you still need to own one license
for each system you plan to install Windows XP Pro onto.

Purchase another Upgrade CD for your laptop.
Make sure it has SP2 integrated in it - if it is 'new' (stamped after the
release of SP2) it will have it already integrated.

If it does not - you can slipstream/integrate easily enough. Google for
"AutoStreamer".

I am having trouble upgrading from XP Home Edition to XP Pro Edition. The
setup program loads 100% and starts to write the susyem configuration when an
error occurs "No disc installed or unable to write system configuration
files". I tried reloading the XP Home Edition but it to gives an error now. I
tried to boot in Safe Mode at a DOS prompt but it errors out with "System.Sav
not found". Any ideas??
