Trying to install XP Pro upgrade on newer version of XP Home (SP 3 is removed
but still showing in system info). I get the new/old mismatch message.

There is no such thing as a "Newer version of XP Home".

There is Windows XP Home installed with Service Pack 1a, 2 or 3. Perhaps
that is what you are trying to say. You have Windows XP Home Edition
installed with Service Pack 2 and when you try to utilize your Windows XP
Professional CD (assuming Retail since and OEM copy will not perform an
upgrade) to upgrade Windows XP Home Edition - it gives you a message about
the installed version being newer.

Seeing as how you can actually see that message when it comes up - it would
be good if you copied it verbatim when ever you are asking about it. ;-)

Integrate (some call it slipstreaming) SP3 into your Windows XP Professional
CD. This will require the IT Professional version of SP3, a working
computer (preferably with Windows XP on it) with a CD writer and a blank CD
(as well as your original Windows XP Professional CD.)

Once you create the integrated Windows XP Professional with SP3 CD - you can
use the new CD to upgrade any service pack level of Windows XP Home (granted
again that it is a retail version of XP professional, not an OEM.)

Thier is no upgrade from xp home to pro,the upgrade is for older windows OS.
To install pro from xp home, microsoft has always stated, boot to xp pro cd,
select install xp,new copy, delete the partition (xp home),create one,let xp
format & install auto.

Andrew E.,

You are again incorrect (and quite possibly not capable of learning.)
