Upgrading to Win200

i currently have Windows 98 installed, but i want to
upgrade to Windows 2000 (i have the disc)
but what i want to know is if i just upgrade, will i have
to install any programs again and also will i lose any
photos, word couments etc that i currently have.

You raise several subjects. Here are some answers.

- A clean installation of Win2000 would give you a far
superior platform than an upgrade. In this case you
would have to re-install all programs.
- No, you won't lose your photos.
- Your question implies that you don't believe in backing
up your files regularly, e.g. once every week, and before
a major change (such as installing a new operating
system). Most people do it like this until they get
caught really bad. A small number prefer to change
their ways before disaster strikes. Here are some of
the most common ways that cause total loss of all
files:
* Catastrophic hard disk failure
* Corruption of the file system
* Theft, fire, electrical damage
* Virus damage
* Hacker damage
* User error
The moral: If you store your important file in the one
place only then it's only a matter of time until you
lose the lot.
