Upgrade to XP Pro;modem no longer works

I recently upgraded my Toshiba Satellite laptop from XP
Home to XP Pro and the modem no longer works. Toshiba says
it is a problem with Dial-up networking in the upgrade but
they won't support it since it did not come factory
installed. Any ideas?

Did your Toshiba originally come with Windows XP on it, or did you upgrade
from Windows 98SE ? I have seen this alot with laptops going from 98SE to
XP, but going from XP Home to XP Pro should not change your modem driver. If
you still have the Windows XP Home CD, have you tried adding new
hardware/drivers and gotten the driver off of the Home version ? It might be
worthwhile to run the Upgrade Advisor off your XP CD (UpgAdv.exe) ad see
what it says and if it offers a new Modem Driver, do it while you are
connected to the Internet so it can get the latest info.
Hope you can find a answer !!

Actually, the modem is installed answers when queried from
the diagnostics page. The problem, according to Toshiba,
is with dial-up networking. And maybe I am blind, but I
can't find dial-up networking anywhere in the add/remove
Windows components to try and reinstall.

It would help if you answered the question about your upgrade path. Was it
originally preinstalled with XP or was it upgraded? It would also help if
you included the model of the laptop.
