I recently upgraded my Toshiba Satellite laptop from XP
Home to XP Pro. I had problems with the modem but updating
to Service Pack 1 took care of that. But the USB ports
don't work. I plug in a flash key or a USB mouse and
nothing happens, no auto-detection, nothing. I did get one
USB related update from Windows Update but it did not
help. Any ideas?

Did you try installing the drivers off any of the disks that came with your computer?

My bad. I posted it wrong. The drivers are not provided
per se. The system came with a Norton Ghost image of the
hard drive at shipping time which contains XP Home. I need
XP Pro for the office network.

If all else fails, remove the USB controllers and root hubs (root hubs
first) and then reboot. See if XP finds the devices and installs them
correctly.

Additionally, does your mainboard or chipset require drivers? Some need
XP driver updates to function properly. Check with your Toshiba
support.

Check out from the toshiba site if the drivers are downloadable thru
them.
