Upgrade to XP; Can't Use Scanner

Hi! When I upgraded to XP, my Epson Perfection 636U
Scanner would not install. I realized that I possibly
needed a new driver for XP and looked on the Epson
website. Under their download drivers for Windows XP, my
636U Scanner was not listed. It went from Perfection 610
to 640U. Do you think I could use the Twain driver for
either of these upgrades, since they are both the same?
If so, will it hurt my computer to try? If not, can you
suggest where to look for more information on this
dilemma? Thank you!

It shouldn't hurt to try, certainly.

Have you tried what Epson recommends, which is using the Win2k drivers for
the 636U?

On the other hand, you could try the latest TWAIN drivers for the 640U. I
think that they will support the 636U as well, although why Epson doesn't
officially support this, I don't know.

(The 640U drivers are the same as the ones for my 610.)

Go to www.epson.com and use the search, in support for 636U. Top item
is drivers, and the page that takes you to includes a note that while
there is no driver for XP, there is one for win2000 which can be used,
and a link to download it

And if that driver does not do what you want, all is not
lost, new scanners are much better than old ones and much
cheaper too.
