scanner driver installation

I have not been able to install my old Epson Perfection 610 scanner on my HP
a832n computer. My OS is xp home edition. I was able to install my Epson
printer. I did notice the upgrade driver for the printer had a setup.exe
file. The upgrade driver for the scanner has a setup.inx file. Windows xp
refuses to recognize the setup.inx file. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

You cannot install this driver by running a setup program. You have to
use the plug and play capabilities of the operating system. Read the
instructions.
