upgrade PDC to win2k member server

We had implemented Win2k domain and migrated all the users from NT 4 to
Win2K.
but now we have a NT 4.0 PDC left and lots of applications like license
servers/printers servers/file are located in this PDC.

So we wanna upgrade this PDC as win2K as well and join the Win2K domain
as member server.

after consulted with a few guys as well as searching from this group.
there's 2 different way to do it ,

1) from a consultant, he told me to upgrade PDC to Win2K, and dont
install AD, then it should be a Win2K server without any DC
information. and then join this server to Win2K domain.

2) another way is very complicated from this group,
Add another PC and joined the PDC as BDC,
promote BDC as PDC
Original PDC as BDC
upgrade both servers to W2K domain
uninstall AD in the original PDC, then this PDC become a normal
Win2K server.

I m not sure which way is right way to go, anybody can help me about
this issue?

thanks in advance

It may try to automatically install AD but if it does just run dcpromo again
to remove AD.

This makes no sense. There is no need to have another DC "hold your DCs
hand" while you upgrade to Win 2k.

Just upgrade the PDC and if AD is installed run dcpromo to uninstall it and
join it to the domain. No need for the extra work of setting up another
DC.... promoting ... whatever and upgrading two DCs just to get one member
server.
