Changing domains for a windows domain controller

We have a small independent Windows 2000 AD domain (one PDC and 10
workstations) and we want to fold them into our main Windows 2000
domain. If we join the existing PDC to the main domain, will it
become a regular member server, or will it want to be a DC?

Thanks,
Bub

You can not join a PDC to another domain. You should run dcpromo on the DC
to make it a member server, (You will loose all user accounts) add it to the
new domain as a member server then run dcpromo to make it a DC again if that
is what you want.

Thanks for the quick response. This is what I want to do.

Do you happen to know if dcpromo is going to give me any grief if I
demote the only DC of a domain? Seems like having a domain without a
DC would be an issue...

Thanks.

You would select the option that this is the last server in the domain.

Without a DC you don't have a domain.

I thought you wanted to get rid of the domain w/ the 10 workstations in it.
Do you want to still have 2 domains when you are done?
