upgrade from xp home to xp prof

I just purchased a new computer that came with XP Home
edition but I want to upgrade it to XP Prof. I have a
full edition of XP Prof. that I used to build another
computer. Can I use this disc to upgrade the home
edition? And if so, do I need to uninstall the home
edition first?

Hi,
Can I use this disc to upgrade the home edition?

Only if you've removed it from the other machine. Then "yes" as long as it
is a retail version, an OEM version is not transferable.
And if so, do I need to uninstall the home edition first?

No.

You "could" use the XP pro disk to upgrade the home computer, but there are
several issues to think about first.
If XP pro is still installed on the other computer you have, you would have
to either un-install it from that computer
first before using it to upgrade the new computer, or purchase another copy
or license.
Next, upgrading the home computer will most likely void your warrenty.
If these are not problems, then it is very easy to upgrade from home to pro.
Simply start the install, and when prompted, choose to upgrade. You will not
have to uninstall home first. You will
have to reload any service packs installed, and "may" have to re-install
some apps or drivers
but I have had very few problems when doing this.
