Upgrade 50 Windows XP Home (OEM) to Win XP Prof - what is the cheapest
option?

I think it is by buying Win XP Prof OEM - what do yoy think about it?

Realize that any OEM version has to be installed on a blank disk. There is
no technical "upgrade" capability.

You'll need to purchase fifty (50) individual copies of Windows XP Professional "Retail Upgrade" versions.
OEM versions have no "upgrade" capability.

Why not purchase a Volume License for WinXP Pro?

Is Retail Upgrade cheaper than OEM version? The price is very important,
more important than technical upgrade option?

The initial price of OEM XP is cheaper than a retail upgrade or a volume
license. The cost of deploying a volume license and future support will be
much cheaper in the long run. With OEM you would have to physically erase
whatever is on the computers, learn how to use the OEM deployment tools to
image the drives, and deal with activating every installation. In the future
whenever something changes you will have to go through the same process
again. With a retail upgrade there are no supported deployment tools and the
same activation problems exist. With a volume license you have more options
for deployment and do not have the activation problems so you will have less
support desk calls. In addition the volume licenses can be moved to new
hardware as systems are upgraded. OEM software cannot be moved to new
hardware. Retail upgrades cannot be moved if the original qualifying OS was
an OEM version.

Check suppliers for cost. No matter what we tell you here, until you find
out what you can purchase it for from where you can purchase, it's moot.

Bacause WinXP Pro OEM is cheaper than Win XP form Volume License... or
maybeam I wrong?

How much cheaper? VLA windows its a big timesaver if you've got a
windows server on the network.

VLA licenses are transferable to new PCs as you buy them. EOM licenses
are not. You get to buy PCs without paying for windows each for as
long as W2K is usefull.

The last time I checked, you could buy vla in 5-packs and roll things
out over time.

Once you get set up to install XP and applications off a server you'll
never go back.
