upgrading OS win XP

I purchased a used laptop about 18 mnonths ago with WIn Xp prof OS. In the
last few days i get a message referring to "this may be a counterfit copy",
etc. After searching the microsoft site pages, I believe I have an expired or
the company that sold it to me cancelled the registration on the volume
Licence agreement. What do i need to do to get a good copy of Win XP Prof?
the licence tag on the underside of the laptop is a WIN 2000 Prof tag.
Thanks, Eddie

You will need to purchase a new copy of XP, you should be able to do a
repair install with this.

Back up your data first also visit the manufacturers web site and down
load the XP drivers for your machine.
