Installing win xp prop ATAPI INCOMPATIBLE

Hi!
I am on the process of intalling OS of win xp prof. Upon booting my system a
got the message "Pri Master Drive - ATAPI INCOMPATIBLE Press F1 to Resume.
When Press F1 it look alright and doing set up the win xp but after
compying all files it well shutdown and going back to boot again and back to
the same screen. This hard drive is 15GB. Is something wrong with this hard
Drive? Please..help

Usually this occurs when

1) IDE cable is bad
2) Hard drive is not set up as "Master" drive on IDE 0 channel.
3) Some other drive is on the same IDE cable as the hard drive.

Is the drive set to master?? If it is the only drive you have, it
should be set to Master, and not Slave. Tell us about your
configuration so we can help you out more. For example, go into your
BIOS and check your settings. You can also try to check if all your
cables are tight like the IDE cable and the power connector going to
the hard drive.

Yup I tried everything. I set my hardrive to master, I tried also cable
select but same problem I got. ATAPI INCOMPATIBLE. I set up my bios to first
boot to CD now I even change my hard drive and cable but same error i got.

Is the drive set to master?? If it is the only drive you have, it

HMM..you can try updating your controller if possible.

Windows NT/2000/XP Users
Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu.
Click [Device Manager] on the [Hardware] tab, then click to open the
[IDE ATA/ATAPI (hard disk) controllers] section. You will find: the
Primary IDE Channel controller, Secondary IDE Channel controller, and a
brand name controller, e.g. Intel, SIS, VIA, etc. The brand name
controller is what needs to be updated. Please visit their website to
obtain these updates.

Go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site and download their free
diagnostic utility. Use it to test the drive.

Hi!

I have almost the same problem. mine is a bit different. I did install win
xp prof. but everytime I boot my computer I get a message: "Pri Master HDD
Error. Sec Master Drive. ATAPI Incompatible. Run Setup or Press F1 to
resume". if I press F1 will resume and finish booting the computer. and to me
everything looks fine.

Please advise. What is my problem and who can i get rid of the error message.

This type of message is usually one of the following cause:

1) Bad IDE cable

2) IDE cable incorrectly connected, motherboard or hard drive end.

3) In-correct jumper setting on the hard drive.

4) In-correct setting for primary slave drive. Usually a jumper that is
incorrectly set up.

5) On WD hard drives, if the hard drive is the only unit on the IDE cable, the
jumper is "supposed" to be removed.
