Can I use the win 2000 disc to upgrade win me?
I do not wish to re-format my drive for this upgrade??
Has anyone accomplished this before?

Cheers
Don

You can't upgrade from WinME to Win2K because Win2K came out BEFORE WinME.

You have to strip the PC of all software and install Win2K from scratch.

It is possible to do this, when you put the cd in, you
ought to get the message saying something like
this :"Windows2000 has found an earlier version of
windows"..do you want to upgrade?...answer yes, and then
during the installation it will ask you about drivers and
registry settings...do you want to keep them?..agian
answer yesand everything should be ok. Ive tried it with
98se and it was ok. But before you install run advanced
scandisk and defrag, just in case there any any errors on
the c:\

David,
Yes you are right there, I missed something out in my
post, it will not work in the way I said, it is possible
though by removing a couple of files, Im not sure what
they are, but I think its the sys.ini file and the
sytem32.ini file and also the command.com file, all in
safe mode before attempting to install win2000
Thanks for pointing it out to me
Ian
