Usually if you have your computer set to install Updates automatically,
there is no problem,
but if you have yours set to download only, you have to OK it.
You can usually double click the icon to see what is happening on the
screen,

And watch out for the Windows Genuine Advantage update/install: if you
do not want it, exclude it from being installed. Read up about it.

That would be a prompt from MS Windows Update. Click or double-click the icon & it will show a window.
Select the "Custom" option rather than any express, that way you get to see a list of what items are involved.

IF and when it minimizes again to the "notification tray", click on it again to get its window back in the foreground.

thanks everyone, this thing has been in my tray for six months and i
didn't dare click on it, i thought it might just start installing
something. i let it install, read some pros and cons first and
thought it would be ok for me. thanks again. gary
