update windows

Hi

How can I update windows from a windows session? I don't want to go to setup
and update it from there.IS there a way to re-install windowsxp from
windowsxp?

I think you can only do it using Recovery Console:

Hi,

If you have the I386 folder on the hard drive, and there is a winnt32.exe
file in it, then yes you can reinstall WindowsXP from within itself. Note
that if you have updated and installed a Service Pack, you may need to
locate the file in the \ServicePackFiles folder instead. You want to make
sure you choose the in-place upgrade, not new installation.

As an additional note: Reinstalling Windows does not cure all ills. In fact,
it can make things worse if done for the wrong reasons. Perhaps, before
attempting this, you should explain what you are trying to fix.

I think All my problems started when Micorosft Update suggested me to fix
my not very good installation of .Net Framework on my computer ,and I
stupidly trust it and after that I almost can't install any .Net Related
things without lots of problems.I have severally uninstalled .Net Framework
and IIS ,but still the same errors.

There is no winnt32.exe file neither in I386 folder on the hard drive nor
in the \ServicePackFiles folder ,so it means that I can't update it within
itself??

Correct. Usually I make it a habit to copy this folder from the disk to the
hard drive when installing a system, but not everyone does, nor is it
required of manufacturers. All they are required to do is provide for some
means of recovery, and usually this is done by supplying a recovery image
which restores the system to factory state. Reinstalls are not always an
option.

Can you please, explain this? The only folder necessary to copy is "i386" (the whole?). In this case, where could it be copy? Anywhere of Hard Disk? When copied how to restore? Thanks.

The only folder necessary to copy is "i386" (the whole?).

Yes, everything needed to install WindowsXP is in that folder. The others on
the CD are for value-add stuff and utilities.

In this case, where could it be copy? Anywhere of Hard Disk?

Yes, anywhere on the hard drive you choose. I generally put it on the root
to make it easy to find (C:\I386). Then I also change the sourcepath string
in the registry to match, under this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

When copied how to restore?

Start/run C:\I386\winnt32.exe
