unwanted password

My friend is running Windows XP and somehow someone has placed a password on
hid desktop. I can't access his system. He can't access his system. He
doesn't know what the password is or could be. Is there a way he can boot and
bypass the start screen and put a new password that only he will know on his
system?

If it is the Windows password you are referring to, try this website:

www.loginrecovery.com

It costs £10 to actually see the passwords in full (it shows you the first
and last letter immediately) unless you are willing to wait 48 hours. Then it
reveals them free of charge.

It's the best took of it's kind. I've used it in the past many times.

Hope this helps

More than likely your friend has not got a password on the computers admin
account, so boot into safe mode, logon as administrator, goto the control
panel, click on user accounts, select your friends account, select remove
password and then add a new password to the account, simple to do and has not
cost you a penny.

Hope that helps ?

How to log on to Windows XP if you forget your password or your password
expires

If you have XP Home, log on with the built-in Administrator account. Usually
the XP Home built-in account has no password set unless someone has change
the password for the account.

Or use an account with Administrative privileges to reset user's passwords
using the 'control userpasswords2' method which is describe in the KB
article.
