Unwanted Dual Operating System

At present I have WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL installed on my
machine. I purchased the XP upgrade and attempted the upgrade.
When all was said and done, I ended up with both WINDOWS XP and
WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL. This is not what an upgrade
should do. I do not want both, I want XP. I used my backup to redo
my machine and am back where I started from with only one OS. How
do I make an upgrade that has only one OS with all my files and
programs
in tact??????????????

Is your upgrade CD for XP Professional or is it for XP Home Edition?
Note that you cannot upgrade Windows 2000 to XP home, it can only be
upgraded to XP Pro.

You must have not chosen to upgrade. It's as simple as that.

While in Windows 2000 - you should insert your Windows XP Professional CD
and if the drive is set to autorun - it will (if not - open the drive to run
it.) Choose to perform an upgrade (all this is while IN Windows 2000.)

Now - if you didn't catch it - I did specify "Windows XP Professional".
Windows XP Home is not a valid upgrade from Windows 2000 Professional.
