Unused HOME license - can I use it elsewhere?

I am getting ready to upgrade a computer from XP Home to XP Pro. The XP Home came on the computer, so I "paid" for it in the cost of the computer purchase, and I plan to buy the XP Pro in a retail box. To technically, I will 'own' two operating systems. Once I upgrade XP Home to XP Pro, can I use the old XP Home on a different computer?

If the XP Home license you have is an OEM version, then it is tied to the
computer that it came with.

No. The license for XP Home becomes part of the XP Pro license when
you install the "upgrade version" of XP Pro. For more information,
open XP's "Help and Support" and type: EULA , then click on the task
"Questions and answers about the End User License Agreement".

Preinstalled OEM versions of Windows XP are non-transferrable
to another computer anyway. You paid for the use of Windows XP
for use on the computer it came with only.

No. When you use an upgrade version, both copies are tied to the
single license.

To do what you want, buy a Full retail version instead; you *can*
do an upgrade with that version.

No, you will own one license. The other (the Home), belongs to the PC
it came with, and cannot be used on another PC.

Technically, the XP Home which came with the new PC is OEM. OEM version are
forever tied to the PC which they are first installed onto and can not be
transferred.

I mis-spoke in my first email. I am NOT buying the Upgrade Version of XP Pro. I am buying the FULL RETAIL version of XP Pro, and installing it on my computer that came installed with XP Home. Now, given this, that I now OWN (have paid for) two legitimate full copies of the OS (one Home and one Pro), can I use the XP Home on a different computer?

Here's how to settle the question. Go to your computer that
has the preinstalled version of XP home installed and in the
Run box type: WINVER , and hit enter. Then click on the
"End-User License Agreement" and read it. Your answer
lies in that agreement.

You can also open XP's "Help and Support" and type: EULA
and hit enter. Click on "Questions and answers about the EULA".

"The EULA is a contract between you and Microsoft (or the original
equipment manufacturer (OEM) if you acquired the software preinstalled
on your computer system)."

If you need any additional clarification, contact the manufacturer of
your computer because the EULA was modified by them for use on
the computer you purchased.

P.S. You do not own Windows XP. You own the right to use the
Windows XP license within the framework of the EULA as
put forth by the manufacturer of your computer.

Same answer: NO

The OS that came pre-installed on the computer is an OEM version. That
is licensed ONLY to the computer it came with, it cannot be moved to
another.

So, after I reformat my HD and install a full-retail version XP Pro instead of the OEM XP Home, I will no longer "USE" the OEM XP Home product (with which this EULA wording above is associated), thus I should be able to get a "FULL REFUND" for the XP Home that I purchased with the computer.

Does the MS agreement with DELL (et al) require that they provide me with this "FULL REFUND" that the EULA promises?

So this is telling me that I can NOT use the XP Home (that I removed) directly on another computer, but I CAN get a full refund and buy another copy of XP Home - which I can then use on another computer.

Is this correct? Or can I not read English.

If the copy of Home is a retail version, yes. If it's an OEM
version, no.

YOU, as a person still own one license, the retail version you bought.
Esentially, you don't own the OEM license, it belongs to the computer
it came installed on, and cannot be installed on another PC,
regardless of any OS you bought to replace it.

Is that the EULA for the Full version of PRO you have?

The one on my XP-Home has no such clause, but hase this:

Software as a Component of the Computer - Transfer. THIS
LICENSE MAY NOT BE SHARED,
TRANSFERRED TO OR USED CONCURRENTLY
ON DIFFERENT COMPUTERS. The SOFTWARE
is licensed with the HARDWARE as a single integrated
product and may only be used with the HARDWARE.
