UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Blake

Everytime I restart my computer now, and this is sudden,
as in never happened before, I get a blue screen after the
Windows XP Home Edition loading screen comes up. This blue
screen says "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" with the tech. info.
saying "STOP: 0X000000ED (0X812AE140, 0X0000032,
0X00000000, 0X 00000000)" HELP!

Hi Blake,

"STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" Error Message
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q297/1/85.asp

This is typically caused by one of two things. If there was an unexpected
shutdown of the computer, then you are most likely running into the problem
described here:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q315/4/03.asp

Stop 0x000000ED Error Message When Volume on IDE Drive with Caching Enabled
Is Mounted
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;EN-US;Q315403

Try booting to the Recovery Console and run a chkdsk /r.

This happened to me last week. It was a bad hard drive. And only the
first partition was bad.
If all else fails, download your hard drive manufacture's diagnostic
utility and run a full test.

Did you see my last post? I think your HD failed.

Well, it stopped rebooting when I unplugged my optical
mouse and put in a regular mouse. But now when I just try
and start windows normally, I get the loading screen, then
when it should go to login, it just goes blank, there's
nothing on the screen. When I check the network on another
computer, it shows the shared documents from the computer
that isn't working right. What would cause the screen to
just stay black and not show anything?

Bad video drivers or a video setting that is outside the capabilities
of your monitor.

Try booting into Safe Mode - that will give you 800 x 600 video and
should work.

Good luck
