Help getting windows started

Hi, I have a 7 year old gateway computer running windows xp, I have been
locked out of the windows system. Getting a blue stop screen,
It reads unmountable_boot_volume
I have tried advanced startup options.... f8, I just keep getting the stop
screen the computer isnt letting me get any farther.
Tech infor is as follows:

If you're going to run chkdsk, however, it's a good idea to pull the drive
first, attach it to another running XP system, and back up the data as you
can. It's possible for chkdsk to finish trashing partially damaged data.
