unmountable boot volume

It says there is something wrong with the unmountable
boot volume. I cant log on, it says to fix the problem I
have to go into DOS. When I do the C:/ Drive isnt
recognized. Can anyone tell me what I can do to fix this?

Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
Laptop:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.
If that fails:

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without their overlay
software which is not needed anyway.

Hi All,

There is another thing that you can do when you have an
unmountable boot volume error before suspecting the hard
drive. put in the windows XP or 2000 CD and then opt for a
repair and in the command prompt write chkdsk /r this has
sorted out many errors.
