Uninstalling Windows Vista

I just purchased a new pc with Windows Vista. There are so many
incompatibility issues and loss of features I grew comfortable with my
Windows XP compatible programs that I want to uninstall Vista and install
XP.
The Microsoft web site said to do this you must boot the pc with the XP
installation disk in the CD drive and when you see the "Press any key to
boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows
XP CD-ROM.
When I tried this, I didn't see any such message. I can't find any way to
get the pc to boot from the CD-ROM.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Don't you set it in bios for the pc to boot from the CD-ROM, or whatever
device?

AuxCox,

Sometimes we humans are just creatures of habit. If you have installed
several third party applications as spyware and/or anti-virus, troubles and
conflicts will you indeed experience!

Since you just purchased a new "pc" have you considered communicating with
the maker of your "pc" for a resolution?

Thank you Willie. I was hoping for a more straightforward solution than
messing with the BIOS settings.

I plan to contact them with a request to put me in XP. I have no desire to
become part of any legacy.

Hi Keith,

Some newly purchased computers are cluthered with trial ware, this is done
under license from the makers of the trial software, now don't get me wrong
but all major manufactures of Computers these days make one machine of every
model "release ready" and gosth the image of that machine and start
duplicating these to install them on several hundreds, thousands, who knows
how many machines.

OEM's just install the trial ware and don't or allmost never check for
compatibility issues, shame on them. Give Vista a change by removing all
your trial ware, install all updates, and defrag and restart.

To covert back to XP, your best bet would be to have a full OEM or retail
cd/dvd of XP, upon boot tap either delete, F1, F10, or whatever key is
assigned to enter your bios,go to BOOT, set boot priority to cd/dvd, and a
good thing would be to disable your hard drive at this stage, when Xp starts
and re-boots for the very first time intercept that boot and go back into
the bios and set boot sequence back to Hard drive first, cd/dvd 2nd from
there on in you should be good to go.

Hope this helps you out.

Most systems these days have a "one-time boot menu" hotkey. On Dell's it's
F12. On some other systems it might be the ESC key. Should throw a character
based menu letting one choose which device from which to boot.

Did you get a Vista DVD with your new PC? If so, I would attempt a clean
install of Vista prior to going back to XP. To clarify, I -do- mean a Vista
DVD, not the system makers "Recovery" DVD, which will, most likely, not only
install Vista but all the additional crap too.

What kind of system is it and what, specifically, are the problems you're
having with it?
