VISTA bootmanager says I have previous install of windows, help re

ok.....so I had xp, in the process of installing a clean install on vista (to
clean up the cyber sludge and freshen system) my computer crashed, I tried to
repair it with the windows CD, left it in the cd-rom drive, and installed
VISTA. When VISTA auto shutdown it booted on the cd-rom first, as opposed to
the dvd-rom i had Vista in. I took it out and it only got to the point of the
page where it says do you want to repair or install, i just took out the
disk. I loaded VISTA and everythng is great on it, EXCEPT the screen when
windows bootmanager pops up at bootup asking if I want to boot from VISTA,
windows XP setup, or prievous version of windows. How can I get this off and
just always boot up VISTA. thanks!!
PS....Im pretty good with windows, but not the best at DOS, if you offer a
dos fix, please pretend im 6 years old....:)

You can edit the BCDedit file but it is a pain. Easiest way is to download
the free VistaBootPro software. Install it and then run it. When it opens
click the 'manage OS entries' tab. Highlight your XP entry and click the red
X button to delete the entry. You just need to leave the Vista option as
the main installed OS. Finally close VistaBootPro and then ,when you
restart, your PC should boot straight to the Vista desktop

everyone says to try this vistabootpro, so i did, the setup is not listed on
the list, although the "previous version of windows" was on there, i deleted
that one, and it is now gone from the bootmanager at startup, but it still
says "windows XP setup" how can i get that off?

Google and download either "EasyBCD" or "VistaBootPro (may be
istaProBoot)" - third party boot managers which will give you the
opportunity to "correct" items.

Hello,
I would start with running MSCONFIG ( start - run - Msconfig)
Then choose the boot tab
If it's listed there you can highlight it and choose the delete button.

Thanks,
