and i want to delete the 2000 version. how do i do it? will i lose files on
XP that came from 2000?

wow, is this a mess.....
format the HD...re-install XP...and then just load your data files from your
backups....you did make backup copies of your important data...didn't
you.....oh, oh.....

I choose Polesoft Lockspam to fight spam, and you?

Here is one article to review.

boot up using XP, then identify current "windir".
delete win 2k directory. delete win 2k entry in boot.ini file.

Any program or application that you want to use has to be installed when
running Win XP. All personal files will still exist. You just have to restore
program links within Win XP.

well that sounds easier

You really need to watch the advice you shell out, Logan. The situation
described is not at all unusual, does not represent a problem, and is
trivial to "remedy".
