I have been very unsuccessful in sending e-mails out on Windows Mail. I
have spent countless hours trying to get it to work.

This is what comes up when I try to send emails.

The connection to the server has failed. Subject ' Hope It Works,' Account:
'verizon.net,' Server:'verizon.net,' protocol: SMTP, Port 25, Secure (SSL):
No, Socket Error 10060, Error Number:0x800CCCOE. It appears that a lot of
people are having this problem.

Thank you for any help.

Everyone has this problem when the server names are incorrect.

Actually, not too many are having this problem. The problem here is that the
server names are not correct. your SMTP server (for sending mail) will
probably be something like smtp.verizon.net, and you receiving (pop3) server
will likely be pop3.verizon.net. Go th the Verizon help page and search for
the proper setup for email. Till you get the account information correct,
you won't be able to use email. They will have instructions there for
setting up your account properly.

Good luck.

i am having this same issue. i have checked the server names on the cox (my
ISP) website and i cant even receive when i change to those they list for
Vista.
here is what i am getting:
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'FW: hewlett', Account: 'pop.central.cox.net', Server:
'smtp.central.cox.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F"

it is rather frustrating. if there are any more solutions, someone please
help! thanks! ( i like my new computer, but working out the inevitable bugs
takes time!)

That type of error is often caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus programs.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

email scanning thing when i get home and will let you know.

Trend Micro antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
First, go into its settings and disable any interaction with email, then try
Windows Mail again. If no improvement, do a trial uninstall.

Another option (instead of uninstalling Trend Micro) is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of
overly intrusive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
