I have worked feverishly to set up my Windows Mail and no matter how much I
work on it - I can't send any messages. They go into my Outbox and stay
there and I try repeatedly to send them, and the following comes up:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Hope It Works,'
Account:'verizon.net,' Server: 'verizon.net,' protocol: SMTP, Port 25,
Secure (SSL): No, socket error 10060, Error, Number: 0x800CCCOE.

It appears that a lot of people are having problems setting this Windows
Mail up. Hopefully you can help me as I don't know what else to do.

Have you called Verizon.net for help
According to their web instruction the SMTP server should be:
outgoing.verizon.net not just verizon.net.
and the box below "outgoing server requires authentication" should be checked.

It seems all your feverish work failed to disclose that the name of the
sending server is "outgoing.verizon.net", not just "verizon.net".

What are my email and news server settings?

I was able to send and receive e-mails with no problems until just recently
(last week or so). Now I can receive them but not send them. I've looked at
all set ups to see if any changes and nothing. I'm wondering if a recent
update to Vista may have caused some problems.

Vista updates don't usually cause that sort of thing. What happens when you
try to send? Any error messages? Are you running AntiVirus setup to scan
your email?
