When I create a new document then go to save it, I go to the Look in: window
to find where I want to file to go and the hour glass just goes round and
round. It takes about 15 minutes for the window to finally open so that I
can locate the file I want my document to save. Please help!

When was the last time you updated Windows XP?
(Patched it from www.windowsupdates.com that is..?)

It is done frequently but I cannot remember when the last time was as it is
my husbands machine.

If it takes 15 minutes for the programs to respond, then something is
definitely wrong.

Have you tried disabling your antivirus software while working in Word (I
assume you are not connected to the Net at the same time) or updating your
graphics display drivers?

Alternately, you can scan your computer for malware:

I remembered how to solve the problem. I right clicked on My Computer and
left clicked on Disconnect Network Drive and disconnected a mapped drive that
was not currently available. Success!
