I can't seem to be able to record with my microphone. I
know it works, because if I select it in playback mode I
can hear myself through the speakers. But if I try to
record using any recording software, it won't record.
Also, it is not detected by Speech recognition or during
the audio hardware test. My sound is built-in on a Soyo
K7ADA MB with an ALi ALiMagic chipset.

Has anyone had this problem?
.
Have you set the sound inputs to microphone? Windows
splits sound settings in the control panel into Playback
and Record. If you can hear it when everything else is
quite that probably means that the microphone is enable
in playback, so anything that it recieved through the
microphone port is played back through the sound output.
However, the playback bypass the recording feature of
windows (i.e. it doesn't get sent to the memory or
harddrives, it is just 'monitoring'). You need to have
microphone enabled in the Record section of the sound
control panel.

Bye.
