Microphone Volume

Hi - when I attach my microphone the recording volume is very low even when
I use Control Panel/Sounds & Audio Devices. The microphone works very well
in another machine.

In theory I have a Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced HD.

When I use Help & Software Centre I find that I have two sound cards:
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
and a
MS Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device.

The Audigy software also shows the microphone volume - rear and line-in
(front).

I have tried both sockets with same results each with max sound on both but
it makes no difference.

Under the Control Panel/Sounds & Audio I have tried the Audio and the Voice
tabs.

Under the drop downs on each of those tabs with the microphone the current
one says Sigma Tel Audio, the other entry says Modem Line#0 Record. When I
tried that I got nothing from tapping on the microphone and also got an
error box in an application where I can record sound.

I have also reloaded drivers and Audigy software.

Can anyone help me with some ideas.

Thanks - John

If you are seeing Sigma Tel Audio then there is something wrong with the Audigy. I have an Audigy2
and thats whats listed as the device in the sounds and recoring options. With the machine off, make
sure that the card is fully seated in the slot, it should be listed in the device manager as an
Audigy.

This problem sounds like the PC has also an on-board (on the motherboard)
sound card. This should / needs to be turned off, or disabled, the CMOS /
BIOS. If not, you may get this type of conflict.
