2 audio cards conflict

Hi All,

I have 2 audio cards in my computer:
- SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
- Sound Blaster Audigy

I have the SB as default audio in the system (Win XP Pro SP2)
and I have the following connections:
Line-In/Microphone jack in the SB - audio-out jack in the TV tuner
Line-Out-1 jack in the SB - 2 analog speakers

I use the SoundMAX for communicators like Messanger or Skype
and I have the following connections:
Microphone jack in the SoundMAX - microphone (in the set with headphones)
Line-Out jack in the SoundMAX - headphones

The problem is that the sound in communicator test is often terrible.
During a conversation is even worse.

Besides, when I change the source at the Surround Mixer (SB Audigy)
from Lin-In to Microphone the same happens automatically in the pannel
of SoundMAX and vice versa. What is more, it automatically changes in the
SoundMAX pannel not only for input but also for output. Because of this
I had to select Line-In instead of Microphone in the SoundMAX.
The microphone functions sometimes properly but often the sound is terrible,
as I mentioned above.
It looks like the cards are somehow dependent on each other.

What should I do to:
- get always a proper sound at communicator test and conversation
- force the cards to function independently

Regards,
Zofia

The easy answer is to get the cards to operate individually since
there is sharing of common Windows resources for sound.

Do you mean that I have to uninstall one of them?
I/ve just bought the SB to avoid disturbing between recording from TV
and voice chats.

Unless the drivers for both the cards are SPECIFICALLY written to allow
the use of multiple devices (few are) AND the applications are SPECIFICALLY
written to allow you to choose which of them to use, you are fighting a losing
battle.

Best to go with one device only and put up with whatever inconvenience
that may mean.
