Microphone not working

Laptop XP SP2/Celeron

I can hear others online while using Yahoo Messenger. But they can't hear
me.

In the control panel, Speech icon option has only one tab "Text to Speech".
Shouldn't there be another tab like "Speech Recognition"?

In Sound Recorder, when I click record button and try playback, I hear
nothing.

In Volume Control, microphone is not muted. Infact I have also selected
microphone boost checkbox.

In Voice menu under Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices icon option, the Test
Hardware wizard is unable to detect microphone.

Please help.

Double click the Sound Icon on your Notification area and click Options >>
Select Properties from the list.
On properties make sure these settings are correct:
Mixer device: [ SoundMAX Digital Audio ][v]

Adjust volume for
( ) Playback
(*) Recording

Under this make your selections:
Show the following volume control:
[ ] Microphone select this

Try to drop down the list under Voice and select your Microphone, you may
have the wrong Device selected there.
