Unable to publish from FP2003

Graham Mayor

I have been maintaining my web site with FrontPage 2003 for some
considerable time without problem, but recently when attempting to publish
updates, there is a long delay before the following message pops up:

Server error: Unable to access configuration for Microsoft Internet
Information Server

and the publication fails. I can log on to the remote site via FrontPage and
I can drag and drop copy changed files between local and remote windows.

I am using Windows XP with IE7 connected via an Ethernet router and separate
Ethernet modem to an ADSL broadband service.

Has anyone any suggestions where I might look for the cause of this problem
and how to rectify it please?

I spent an hour on the phone this morning with 1 & 1 support without any
resolution. The guy seemed to think that there may be some conflict between
my files and the ones on the web server, though if there is I cannot find
it.

I am even tempted to download the whole site from their server (which is not
something to be undertaken lightly) though whether this would help I cannot
say.

FrontPage doesn't report any errors and the web site is accessible. I just
cannot publish anything.

I have had some further error messages along the way

Server error: Cannot set the permissions for file,
E:\kunden\homepages\16\d91198299\House_Sale.
and
Server error: Cannot set the permissions for file,
E:\kunden\homepages\16\d91198299\MoreImages.

I don't have an E: drive (OK it's a DVD drive - and nor relevant to my web
site) and the pathnames are not on my local system, though \House_Sale and
\MoreImages relate to the web site.

I have tested with a different PC with a different configuration and that
produces the same errors.

E:\ drive is on the host web server, you need to provide them with the error messages.
