Unable to access devices with removeable storage

Have had my system for 3 years & running XP with SP2. Last week downloaded
the latest upgrades & from then I cant access any removeable storage drives
etc.

Can use CD drives (2) if I go in via software but not from windows - autorun
has stopped working also. I assume I have a registry problem - any ideas ?
