Two host names - one computer

Been having a problem with a toshiba laptop, it could
receive and ip address from the dhcp server but could not
access the DNS server for internet or internal resources.
Tried everything from releasing, flushing dns,
registerdns, renewing, uninstalling the card, etc... I
thought it was a DNS issue but was outvoted on that. So
we changed the computer name took it out of the domain and
then tried to join again, of course the computer said that
we could not join due not being able to find the domain
controller, even though you could ping it, use the run
command to access files etc.

Anyway to make a long story short we blew away the OS and
started from scratch, the machine was in need of it
anyway. We call the system a different name.
Seems to work, however if you ping the new system and also
ping the old system name you get a response back using the
same ip address. Which looks to me like a DNS or DHCP
problem, keeping that record intact somehow.

Any ideas

Hi

Could be a WINS server too?

You could also accidentaly have the host name set in both the computer properties and the network connection properties seperately.

I know WINS can stop you rejoining a domain until you manually clear the entry, I'd guess at that.
