two choices after reinstall of XP

XP Pro would not boot. Reinstalled onto D drive, but could not access files
on C drive and XP would not recognize any devices. Took laptop to shop had
files on C drive backed up to CDs and had them reinstall XP Pro and drivers.
For first few boots, XP started with no problems. Now I am presented with two
options upon booting.....the first appears to boot from C drive and second
from D drive which doesn't work. Reformatted D drive thinking it would remove
the offending files, however, I am still presented with two boot
options....one that works and one that does nothing. Any suggestions on how
to remove second option and to get laptop to boot without presenting options.

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not work for you, then:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
