Turn of 'Read Only'

Barb

We have a spreadsheet that was created in 2003 and has been saved now as 2007
(*.xlsx). In 2003, we were able to request the spreadsheet to be opened as
'Read Only' by opening the Tools - Options - Security tab and clicking on
'Read Only recommended'.

Now that we are using 2007, we need to turn this off... I have looked
everywhere for this option, but can't find it. It's NOT the same as Review -
Protect Document, because we've turned everything there off and it still asks
to open as 'Read Only'.

HELP!!! We've (my associate and I) have spent 2 days looking for it. I've
been all thru the Community as well as Help files in Excel but can't find
this specific issue.

Barb,

With the file open, select >Button> Save As> Excel Workbook (*.xlsx)
In the "Save As" dialoge box click on the [Tools] button (lower left
corner).
Select "General Optons" and clear the checkbox for "Read-only recommended".
Click OK then save the file.
Let us know if this doesn't work.

Best wishes,
Dave

That worked.... Boy could they have hidden that any further??? I've never
even noticed the 'Tools' button on that screen....

This is a 'keeper'...
