Open doc autom'ly converted to read-only!!

I stepped away from my desk for 30 mins and when I came back my 3 docs. were
read-only! Is there a tools, option button to turn this wonderful feature
off? Because I've spent all morning looking and can't find the answer.

Has Word been activated? If it's not activated, then it goes into "reduced
functionality" mode after 50 uses. Choose Help - Activate Product.

Sadly, yes. I work for a state agency and my poor IT guys don't know what
happened. Hoping their squeezing time in to check with what support they can
get.

Are other documents read-only, or just those three?

Can you do File - Save As and give them different names?

What version of Word is this?
