Anyone else notice that TTS engines no longer work after
installing SP2? I have reinstalled everything from the
Microsoft website that relates to TTS and I get an error
when opening the speech panel from control panel that
says "The request cannot be carried out because the
necessary engine could not be created. Please select a
different engine and/or different audio device. I click
the OK button. Now I am in Speech Properties but cannot
make any changes, once I click apply or ok I get a message
that says "An exception occured while trying to
run "C:\WINDOWS\system32
\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech\sapi.cpl",Speech"
Whats going on? I have 3 different machines with 3
different sound cards. All worked fine until SP2, now
none work. I uninstalled SP2 on one machine and TTS works
fine now on that SP1 machine.
