Trying to connect to remote computer

I have XP and am trying to assist 84 yr old mother-in-law with her computer.
She sends invitation, I accept but cannot connect because "host name not
resolved". She gets same msg when I asked her to assist me. Any
ideas/suggestions?
 
You may need to change the private IP to public IP. This search result may help,
