Several times lately, I've tried downloading .exe files
from sites that are known to be reputable (e.g.,
Chemicalogic, for steam table data; Logajog for a
graphing patch) and I've been unable to do so. I get an
error box that tells me that IE 6 was not able to open
the site: the requested site is either unavailable or
cannot be found; try again later. Now, this DOESN'T
happen on another machine elsewhere, so I suspect there's
a setting on IE that I don't know about that may be
blocking this sort of download. Can anyone help, please?

i've had the same problem. it never happend before, and
now when i'm in hotmail and go to 'save target as' to
download the email i get that same message. help people...

Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start/Run menu applet execute: Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a normal
safety precaution.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe
If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed. The
key does not normally exist.

Thanks, but this has nothing to do with Netscape. I'm
talking about such things as an upgrade to Winzip. I
operate exclusively in IE, so I can't say anything about
Netscape.
