Trouble Booting XP

Just over the last few days I've experienced the following problem: When I
turn on my computer XP starts to boot, I get the Windows screen (just before
desktop) and it's as if someone pressed ctrl-alt-del and the computer
reboots. This happened three times in a row the other day and I booted to
the screen that would occur if one pressed F8 for those choices. I select
"Last known good ... " and XP boots. I have checked for viruses, hardware
diagnostics (Maxtor), chkdsk (chkdsk /F), ad-ware, and Spybot programs and
nothing turns up. Any ideas what's going on?

Believe it or not, I found the problem. I have a Sony DVD+/- RW. I placed a
bootable CD in the drive and rebooted my computer. No luck, - drive would
not read/boot from CD. After I did get WinXP Pro started (Last good config)
I swapped an older Sony DVD+/-RW and all problems disappeared!
