Transferred Address Book isn't my "Contacts"

I have followed instructions Russ Valentine provided on Dec 3 to atk to a
posting titled "'Contacts' not working ??" It has helped me make my address
book more accessible, but I'd like to improve that accessibility - i.e. I
want the addresses to be seen through the address book titled "Contacts".

I copied my Outlook.pst file from Outlook on my old computer to my new
installation of Outlook on my new computer (have Outlook 2002 (think I did on
old system too). Access to my old email was all in tact after the transfer,
but not so for my Contacts. When I followed Russ's instructions at
http://home.indy.rr.com/russval/addressbook.htm#Lose, my Outlook Address book
was already present when I went to Tools | Email Accounts -> View or change
existing directories or address book. So I continued to follow instructions
he pointed to at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002.
The section there titled "How to Mark Your Contact Folder for Use with Your
Address Book" helped me make the address book/contacts I had brought over
from my old system accessible (i.e. clicking the "Show this folder as an
e-mail address book" at File | Folder | Properties for Contacts | Outlook
Address Book [tab] AND providing a descriptive name made this possible.
However, when I want to send an email to multiple people, and therefore want
this address book/contact list to appear, this is what I must go through:

1. With Inbox selected, select New.
2. Within the new email page, select "To" to bring up contacts list.
3. This message appears "The address list could not be displayed. The
Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may
have been moved or deleted or you do not have permissions ..." Select OK.
4. Select LizsContacts from the "Show Name from the" dropdown list.
5. Now select the multiple contacts, etc.

If my addresses were inside "the" address book named "Contacts", I would not
have to contend with this message box and the need to select another address
book for my list to appear.

Thanks in advance for your help.

That just means you have an invalid or outdated reference to a Contacts
Folder in your Outlook Address Book. You can remove it here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.

This hasn't solved my problem. I've tried various combinations of removing
Outlook Address Books (remove both that are listed, remove the one that is
listed, remove one of the two that is listed) and marking or unmarking my
Contacts folder for use, and there's no change to the problem I describe.
(The toggling I'm doing in trying to make your fix work only causes my list
of contacts to be visible in a secondary contacts list or not visible in a
secondary contacts list - it doesn't cause my contacts lists to become "the"
default Contacts list.)

Thanks for your reply. (I had to name the outlook.pst file I transferred
over from my old system outlook1.pst , because I copied in my transfered
outlook.pst before my first-time start-up of Outlook on my new system.
First-time start-up created outlook1.pst, and would then only recognize
outlook1.pst. Don't know if this is a factor.)

Your post is now indecipherable because you keep introducing new information
and inaccurate information. You can't remove the Outlook Address Book from
this dialog, so you did something else. The method you now tell us you used
to transfer Outlook data will create a corrupt profile every time.
I'd suggest one of two things:
1. Post an accurate and complete description of what you did
2. Start over with a brand new profile, then follow all of the instructions
I've posted.

OK. Perhaps, then, you're not using the correct PST as the delivery
location. Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing e-mail
accounts>Next. Look at the "Deliver new e-mail to the following location"
drop-down at the bottom left. Does it point to the PST containing the
folders you want to be your default folders? If not, change it, click
Finish, then stop and restart Outlook.

Thank you Brian. Seems the one thing I had left to do from where my last
posting left off was restart my computer, because all was well the next day.
(I had tried restarting Outlook before my last post, but that appears not to
have been enough.)

Overall, the solution has been:
1. Remove Outlook Address Books (Tools | Email Accounts -> View or change
existing directories or address book ->Change...->Remove Address Book)
2. Mark Contact Folder for Use with Address Book (clicking the "Show this
folder as an e-mail address book" at File | Folder | Properties for Contacts
| Outlook Address Book [tab].
3. Restart my computer.

Thank you for your patience and effort Brian. I'm glad I chose to come back
to post the conclusion to my situation and discovered your posting.
