i have a machine with win xp home and have purchased a
full version of win xp pro, how do i transfer the xp
license so i can install it on another machine?? any help
would be appreciated.

Hello
You can not transfer an OEM license it is stuck with the machine it was
originally installed on.
If you have a retail version you can just install it on a different computer
and then activate it as you did the first time if there is a problem then it
will not let you activate it over the internet and you will have to call MS
and tell them your situation and it is done, no big deal.
Just as a reminder 1 license 1 computer you will not be able to active the
same key code on 2 computers.

The oem only applies if the bios and os are locked together. I haven't seen
many that were locked. My wifes laptops isn't. The xp home I'm running right
now is an oem from my brothers laptop. The first thing he did was reformat
and install 98. I slipstreamed it and put the rollups in it (if you have to
install xp many times because of tinkering then slipstream is the only way
to go) and changed it to a retail with the same coa and have activated this
many times on this computer and as far as I'm concerned it is legal because
I'm the only one using this license and ms gave me my activation code, not
once but many times. Do they care?, no, as long as it is only on one
computer. What would be illegal is ms saying throw that $150 program in the
garbage. Those that want to respond back saying my usage is illegal, don't
bother, my raincoat is on, fingers in my ears, singing lalalalalala.

Provided you bought the Home system retail, and not as an OEM one with
hardware (these are licensed solely to the machine where first installed
and may not be transferred), you just go ahead and install the Pro.
that releases the Home license, and you install on the alternate
machine. When it comes to activation, if it is more than 120 days since
you last did it, you will find it will go through on the net just like
first time. If not, you will have to phone a toll-free number that will
be given, to explain and swap one long number for another to check back
as you type it in
