Obtain XP professional License?

L

Lee

I am currently running OEM Vista home premium x64 and need to run an app
that only runs in a 32 bit environment. I installed a virtual machine and
put a test copy of Win xp professional on it and sure enough the problem app
runs fine. The question is: how can i get a license for the xp pro?

Do you really not know that the only way you can get a license legally
is to buy it?

Are you looking for help in a Microsoft newsgroup, using what appears
to be your real name (Lee Byler) and telling it to Microsoft, to find
out how to get a pirated version?

Not too swift!

If you read the rest of the thread, you will learn that the OP wasn't
interested in a pirate copy, but where they could pay and download a
copy of XP Pro. And they weren't interested in a snail mail version.

Well unfortunately they will HAVE to have a "snail mail" version unless they
have an MSDN or TechNet subscription - I don't know where else they will be
able to get just one license...

I have read all the messages in the thread that appear here. The only
message from the OP that I've seen is the one quoted in its entirety
above.

OP *never* said that!

He already has a copy of XP Pro (a "test" copy, whatever that is...),
and he would like to purchase a legit license (which, of course, entails
a Product Key) for it.
Actually you can download Windows XP Pro here for $44.99. Found it
with Google.

That looks *extremely* suspicious!

From that page:

"No key required, self- integrated into each disk uniquely."

I've got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale if anyone's interested...

I would be VERY wary of that.

Sounds very odd to me, that.....

Yes it sounds very odd to me too. Although the WayBackMachine shows they
have been around since September 2001. Also many OEM versions work the
same way. For example my Gateway MX6124 laptops ('06 era) and Asus EeePC
netbooks ('08 era) doesn't require keys either. Yet they still pass
Microsoft's WGA tests.

Obviously a scam. I'd be leery of giving these guys my credit card
information...

Very strange Ken. I could of sworn this was the thread where the OP
clarified their original post and stated they were only interested in
purchasing a legal copy online and by downloading it. This was like 50
minutes of the original post. I checked on the machine I saw it
yesterday and it isn't there either. Maybe somebody removed it from the
newsgroup?

ShopPal may have been around since 2001 but you have to understand that
ShopPal is sort of like an ebay site, ShopPal makes it easy for anyone
to rent "space" and open a virtual store, they don't own the stores.
It's the same as ebay stores, ebay doesn't own them, they simply rent
the space and facilitate e-commerce for those who rent space. It's all
a matter of buyer beware, any crook can open an e-store...

Hard to say... I found the following additional information about this
them. Also I can't find any complaints against them.

Because newsgroup messages are propagated to many many servers all
over the world, removing messages does hardly anything. It's more
likely that you were just mistaken. But no big deal.

Sorry Ken. I found it. It was in another similar thread and different
OP.

OK. As I said, no big deal. We all make such mistakes from time to
time.

O.K. now let me make myself very clear:
I have here in my possession a Winxp Pro disk from an earlier computer
purchase and that copy is installed and being used every day on another
computer here at my home. I used that same disk to install WinXP pro in a
virtual machine on a recently purchased laptop that I take abroad everyday
in order to test an app that will not run in Vista x64. (Vista is the
Operating system the new laptop was loaded with)
The app in question does run in the virtual machine under the Winxp pro x32
environment, and I now would like to PURCHASE A LEGITIMATE KEY.. for the MS
XP Pro

To you Mr Blake.. you just tried and convicted me before you had all the
facts... cheers

Lee
