Tools - Internet Options disabled error message

In my IE6 toolbar, if I select the "Tools" menu and
then "Internet Options" from the dropdown, I now get an
error message in a dialogue box titled "Restrictions" -
the error message reads;
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in
effect on this computer. Please contact your system
administrator."

Anybody any ideas what I have done, and how to fix it? I
suspect I have done some injudicious pruning of files and
settings selection in trying to get rid of some spyware
and other undesirables (Cydoor, Adcache etc) from my hard
drive.

What exactly have you used to eradicate the Spyware?

*Many* anti-spyware applications are not as desirable as they
appear to be. Of note, that work, are, SpyBot Search & Destroy
and Lavasoft's Ad-aware.
http://security.kolla.de (SpyBot).
http://www.lavassoftusa.com (Ad-aware).

Both are freeware, SpyBot being for the moderate to advanced user.
As a starting point, choose either of the two applications, download -
*fully* update - run a scan much like you would with your pre-installed
A-V scanner and post back your findings.

I have been struggling with the same problem. I had run
Search and Destroy a couple of nights ago to rid my system
of spybots etc., and it may have been thereafter that this
problem began. Tonight, I reversed all the changes I had
made earlier in S&D. But the problem has not changed.
There must be a fair number of us out there with this
problem. I hope someone has a solution for this one.
Thanks in advance.
